Is Chapter 7 right for me?
Chapter 7 bankruptcy works best for someone who has a lot of unsecured debt such as
Utility bills
Credit card debt
Medical bills
If you are current on your payments, you may keep certain assets, like your house and your car. Alternately, you can liquidate them if you choose. Either way, after a Chapter 7 discharge, you have no further obligation to pay.
Declaring Chapter 7 can also
Stop harassing calls from collection agencies
Prevent lawsuits
Prevent utility shutoffs
Am I eligible for Chapter 7?
Unfortunately, there is an income threshold for Chapter 7. If, after income tests, your income level is above the eligibility point, you would be ineligible. Also, you can only declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy every eight years. However, if you still believe that bankruptcy is the best solution, you can still file under Chapter 13.
